A brilliant film score can make or break a movie β sometimes the music outlives the film itself. From iconic British composers to Hollywood legends, these soundtracks have burrowed into our brains and refused to leave.
Put the items in your preferred order.

Trainspotting (1996)
Iggy Pop, Underworld, Blur β Danny Boyle's soundtrack was basically a greatest hits of 90s British cool. It made choosing heroin over life sound disturbingly tempting.

Pulp Fiction (1994)
Dick Dale's surf guitar, Chuck Berry, Al Green β Tarantino basically made a mixtape and called it a movie. Nobody has danced to a film soundtrack quite like Uma Thurman since.

The Dark Knight (2008)
Two notes. That's all it took for the Joker's theme to make grown adults deeply uncomfortable. Hans Zimmer turned Gotham's dread into something you'd inexplicably put on while doing the washing up.

Blade Runner (1982)
Synth-soaked, melancholic, utterly otherworldly β Vangelis composed something that felt more like a memory than a film score. Forty years on and it still sounds like the future.

Saturday Night Fever (1977)
Stayin' Alive alone would have been enough, but the Bee Gees delivered an entire era on one double album. Whether you love or loathe disco, this soundtrack changed popular music permanently.

Interstellar (2014)
Zimmer deliberately avoided listening to the script and composed on pure emotion β the result was a score so overwhelming it made grown men ring their dads. Nolan's cosmic tear-jerker has never recovered.

Dune (2021)
Not content with existing sounds, Zimmer built entirely new instruments to score Denis Villeneuve's desert epic. It sounds ancient and alien simultaneously β frankly showing off, but we'll allow it.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
A Marvel film where the soundtrack β a cassette tape of 70s bangers β became the emotional centrepiece. Come and Get Your Love has never hit harder than in a spaceship with a talking raccoon.
