British telly has given the world some of its finest storytelling, sharpest comedy, and most baffling reality TV. But which decade truly deserves the crown?
Put the items in your preferred order.

The 1970s
From Fawlty Towers to I, Claudius, the 70s produced television that took genuine risks with uncomfortable truths. Yes, some of it aged badly β but the ambition was unmatched.
The 1980s
Thatcher's Britain made for unmissable television β Boys from the Blackstuff, Blackadder, and EastEnders all arrived in one extraordinary decade. The nation was divided but glued to the screen.
The 1990s
The 90s gave us The Office before The Office, Spaced, and an era of panel shows that felt genuinely anarchic. British television briefly became the coolest thing in the world.
The 2000s
Doctor Who returned, Downton hadn't ruined everything yet, and shows like The Wire were making British commissioners deeply nervous about their own output. Interesting times.
Right Now β Streaming Era
We have more content than any generation in history and yet somehow spend 40 minutes scrolling before rewatching Peep Show again. Make that make sense.
