Not everything in sport is about watching from the sofa β sometimes it's about getting stuck in yourself. Whether you're a Sunday league hero or a chronic beginner, which sport brings the most joy when you're actually the one doing it?
Put the items in your preferred order.

Five-a-side Football
From muddy astroturf in Croydon to floodlit cages in Manchester, five-a-side is the spiritual home of the average British bloke or woman who still thinks they've got it. Nobody cares that you're slow β there's always someone worse.

Tennis
Every summer, Wimbledon inspires millions of people to dig out a racket and volley into a net repeatedly for an hour. It's genuinely fun even when you're shanking every second ball into the car park.

Golf
Golf is a sport that punishes you constantly yet keeps pulling you back with the occasional perfect shot. Half the joy is the walk, the banter, and pretending the wind ruined your swing.

Cycling
Inspired by the Tour de France or just trying to get fit after Christmas, cycling delivers freedom, fresh air, and the occasional near-death experience on a roundabout. Still brilliant.

Badminton
Badminton is one of those sports that looks gentle until you've played it for ten minutes and can't breathe. Brilliant at any level, and a shuttlecock is genuinely one of sport's most satisfying objects to hit.

Swimming
There's something deeply satisfying about powering through a lane at your local leisure centre, even if your technique looks more like a panicking labrador than Michael Phelps. Good for the body and the brain.

Cricket
Even if you're out for a duck every single time, cricket at village or park level is one of the most quintessentially enjoyable British sporting experiences going. Tea at the interval alone makes it worth it.

Squash
Squash is proof that you don't need much space to get a brutal workout. Even beginners can have a proper competitive game within a few sessions, which keeps you coming back for more punishment.
