Queueing is practically a national religion, but not all queue rules are created equal. Rank these unspoken commandments from sacred to slightly silly.
Put the items in your preferred order.
No queue-jumping, ever
Skipping ahead is the moral equivalent of kicking a puppy. Even a raised eyebrow feels like a war crime response.
Save a spot for a mate (within reason)
Holding a place for a pal nipping to the loo is fine. Ushering in their entire five-a-side team is treachery.
Respect the invisible personal space bubble
Stand too close and you're a menace. Stand too far and someone will accuse you of not queueing at all.
Acknowledge the true queue order at the bar
Getting served out of turn requires a polite 'sorry, I think they were before me'. Anything less is barbarism.
Tut audibly at rule-breakers
You may not confront them directly, but a well-timed tut is your moral obligation to society.
