Which childhood pet holds the biggest place in your heart?
Nearly everyone had a first pet, and most of us still remember the name. Rank these old favourites from the one you loved most to the one you could take or leave.

The family dog
He heard the car before anyone else and lost his mind at the sound of a lead. Muddy paws on the carpet, and nobody really minded.

The cat who ran the house
She slept on the warmest chair and sat on the newspaper you were reading. When she chose your lap, you felt honoured.

The hamster on the wheel
He stuffed his cheeks with sunflower seeds and escaped behind the wardrobe at least twice. Cleaning the cage was somehow always your job.

The goldfish from the fair
You won him on the hoopla and named him before you got to the car park. Some lasted a week, some lasted years.

The budgie in the corner
Blue, noisy and convinced he could talk if you said hello enough times. The cage cover went on at bedtime, no arguments.
